95Toyota

Hey guys I'm new to four wheeling! I'm 16 living in Cali and I just got my grandpas 95 Toyota pickup. It has a 22RE under the hood and I have a cam I'm thinking about putting in it. So far she runs great but all I can do right now is dream cause I cant drive yet, because I don't have my drivers license. This truck is pretty much stock. I was thinking about lifting it and putting bigger tires under it, but when I'm done with that I really want to put a flatbed kit on it. But my main concern is it has IFS. I don't know wether I will have to put a live axle swap under to make it a worthy rig or not. But other than that i just need to start saving money and start doing some wrenching on my rig! Ill try and get a picture of my rig on here soon.

Tacomas make awesome wheelers, you will be happy! Dont sweat the ifs deal right now. You would be suprised how much fun you can have with a stock 4wd truck! Just beat the crap out of it, toyotas can take it. Be smart with your mods, dont be like me and buy everything! Learn to weld if you have not already and dont be afraid to ask lots of questions. Peace out

I am pretty sure this is not a Tacoma.  It is a '95 yes, which was the first model year of the Tacomas,  but he said it has a 22-RE under the hood.  The Tacomas had a 2.4L 4 cyl. but it was not a 22-RE it was a 2RZ.  They also had a 2.7L 4 cyl. that I believe was called the 3RZ, and Bigmike has one in his '81.  Anyways, wasn't tryin' to be a prick or anything, just wanted to clarify.
in the projects nooga, anything goes

i didnt even notice, I love yotas but I dont pay attention to the newer trucks, im partial to the oldies but goodies.  good eye

Don't put a "Flatbed Kit" on it. Build your own and be unique. Gather ideas from everybody who has done one and see what works and what they would change or do differently.

Sorry but I think I worded that wrong, actually my dad bought me the truck. To lilbuddy I live in Clovis, CA its in or near Fresno CA. To oddball4x4 Actualy I started with a bug too. I was going to make a baja bug and I got discouraged when i noticed i still needed well over a grand in parts and I didnt even have $100. guywithuglyyota #1 i dont think im going to beat the crap out of this truck because even though it is my first truck its a very clean truck. #2 I do know how to weld but your still kinda right I do need to learn alot more, because I know ill need it. And also i know ill have fun with this truck stock because ive been told that stock it will beat a stock jeep wrangler which is what my good friend has so...im happy.:yesnod:  To The Floor yes your right it isnt a tacoma, 95 is the last year of the pickup because in 95.5 toyota came out with the tacoma. And you didnt seem like a prick. But now I have respect for you because you seem to have done your homework on the toyota truck history. and well to pretty much every one im not even going to worry about the IFS because I wont be doing any huge trails where ill need the live axle any time soon. so thanks alot!

And about the pics im going to run over to my friends and scan a few so ill have pics in a few.

:welcome: not a bad rig. in my oppention the most affective mod you can do is at least a rear locker or front and rear but just the rear makes a huge difference. a stock rig locked front and rear can easily get farther than a rig with flexy suspention and open diffs  :beerchug:  have fun and enjoy ur new truck!!! :yesnod:

I ALWAYS LIKED THAT BODY STYLE THE BEST, JUST WHEEL THAT IFS TILL IT CRAPS OUT THEN YOU CAN DO AN SAS

The first dents and scratches are a form of therapy! You just have to let go and have fun, its just a machine. BUT I completley understand not wanting to ding up a great truck. Just invest in armor.

I could probobly build a carbon copy of that truck for about 4k.  So it doesnt bother me to shred the sheet metal. :gap:
