Irok vs. Swamper
« on: Mar 05, 2006, 04:43:45 PM »
Okay so heres where i cant decide weather to buy the iroks or TSL's. I ran TSL's in the past and worked great in the rocks but then if i encountered mud or snow the tires wouldnt clean out due the 22re and not much tire spin. I know the irok is easier to clean out in these situations but im not concerned about that as much as how they work on the rocks. I've both sides of it they either work great or just flat out suck so i just dont no which on to go with. But the iroks are cheaper by almost 300. I dont want to spend a grand on tires that dont work on the rocks. Which this truck is mainly for. So any input would be great. what you've heard or how you like em whatever
Thanks

Irok's are a good tire but from what i've noticed they're really "bouncy" on the rocks. Street manners probably aren't a concern for you but they ride okay on the street.

I run 36" iroks and they grip great on the rocks. They took some weight to balance..... But otherwise no problems at all and I would buy them again.

sorry TSL's
As far as the sidewall is concerned i've heard of the sliceing easily which worrys me cause im not going to be caring a 40" spare tire or a tire period. the tsl's have a strong sidewall i sliced one of them to the cords and ran probaly 5 more times and never failed.

I would think that all bias swampers are the same casing, except maybe the sx's, thus having all the same sidewalls. But Idon't know that to be a fact.

I think the I-rocks are a softer compound than the TSL's and various other swamper's, thus making them more prone to to cuts.
If you are running in the rocks I would say TSL's + Bead lock + 0 psi = No worries/superb traction in all terrain's.  And to make it even better, hot knife the TSL's and the will flex more, if not you could get them sipped and that would help especially when it is wet out.

I belive that you are right about them having a sofgter compound....but...I thought that the compound was just in the tread, not the sidewalls, ie: casing.

Hhhhmmm! you may be right, :dunno:  i don't know.
I have seen I-rocks run the same trails as a TSL's and the I-rocks came out looking like shredded cheese after several runs where the TSL's were almost unscathed.

Yeah tsl's are a good strong tire and with beadlocks which i have already i think is going to be my best bet. I need a tirre that holds up really well in sharp rock and jagged edges (other trucks). I would like to grove them but i dont have a tire groover or no someone who does but hey might just have to buiy one.

I am very fond of the tsl's..... I am fairly sure that all the swamper casings are different and unique to each tire.  I have never heard of some of these IROK horror stories (my roommate rocks 39.5" iroks) but that doesn't mean they aren't true.  I want 38" tsl's right now but am debating the 39.5 Iroks for just a bit more.  :yumyum:

also- where are you pricing tires that the Irok is cheaper than the TSL?  :yikes:

Well I was gonna go with the Irocks but only because they were then cheaper than the TSL's but now they are more expensive ( only like 10 or 15 bux) so Now I will run 36" TsL's in the front and 37 boggers in the rear :disturbed:

after extensive research (real life research)  I have decided that their are TWO tires that I'd run if purchased new.

IROKS and Krawlers. period.  :yesnod:
