Topic: Which winch?

Have an 87 4 runner. Warn and Milemarker winches were my guess, but not real sure on which to get. Warn has a lifetime guarantee, but are twice as expensive as milemarker. Just need the insurance!

ive owned both, both are good for different reasons, Warn has a faster motor so it moves quicker and relies on a HP/gear combo to get the work done BUT more HP from my experiances means it'll heat up faster. On the other hand Milemarker has low HP motors but big gear ratio's so it depends more or gearing down to get the job done thus its a slower winch but can work for a longer period before it starts to get warm and heat up.

I had more problems with my Milemarker then the Warn but the Milemarker seemed to pull harder and its obviously alot cheaper then the Warn...

I don't own a winch.  Iv'e been asking around since I will get one down the road.  I have not heard anything good about the Milemarkers.  Sure, the Warns are more expensive, but I think this is definetly one of those cases where you get what you pay for.

my buddy has a milemarker and it is slow compared to the warn8274 the rest of us have, but it has not let him down and has been used plenty of times. if i was going to buy new and was on a budget go milemarker,but if you dont mind used you can find a used warn for the price of a new milemarker.

The question is how often do you plan on using it?  Do you wheel at a level where the winch will be a normally used item or simply something to have for those rare occasions when you get stuck alone?

My dad has a "cheap" one on his Blazer and it worked great the one time he needed it.

has anyone read the article in pertersons about winches the milmaker 9000lb and the harbor frieght 9000lb are completely identicle soo i'm going to get the harbor frieght 9000lb

Check around for which one oyu can get cheaper...sometimes the Milemarker lists for the same or less on sale than the HF.

 hey the HB work fine toyoder has one on his buggy and it work fine and around $300 plus a two  year warenty thats knot bad

The 8000 lb winch is cheapest at HF, the 9000lb one you should shop around cause there are a bunch of different prices and brands that carry it as their own.
