I have a detroit ez locker in the frontend of my 84 ..the problem is it will pull in only on my left side and will pop on the right and every now and then it will pull..Both the wheels will pull in reverse....I have a idea what it maybe..could my locker be shimmed wrong?

It's definately in the locker . We thought it was the hub but like bj said we replaced it on the trail and it still won't pull. The right side quits pulling when your going forward , but it seems to work in reverse . Every once in a while it will pop , and then it starts pulling  :screwy:  The only thing I can think of is that the shim behind the side gear might be too thin causing it not to engage fully. Is this possible ? We're stumped on this one  :headscratch:  Thanks for any advice.

Or you broke the locker, maybe pins in the locker broke?

How long and how hard have you used it? The EZ-Locker is for occasional use unlike the heavy duty Detroit. If you have used and abused it a lot your springs could be to weak to hold the pressure.

If the springs were weak then neither side would engage , right ?  I broke the pins in mine one time and both sides still pulled it just wouldn't unlock. I can't understand why only one side will pull  :dunno:  Anybody ever seen this before ?  :headscratch:

I had an ez locker once and after talking to the rep at tractech, if the sidegears get even the least bit worn on the edges they will not engage right.  I would see if any of the side gear teeth are chipped or worn down.  good luck

Well I tore it down last night and went to pull the short side shaft out and it won't come out.....You think it's possible that the splines on the shaft are rolled over and I am get hung on the burrs?? :hammerhead:

I stopped by your house last night , but you were not there. I did take a look at your truck though  :yikes:  I thought maybe where you had martacked your splines got wedged into the side gear not letting the inner shaft slide out :dunno:  I'll try to come by tonight and help you with it.  :moon:

:nonono: Well I know that is not the problem..because I could move back and forth about 1/4 of an inch..but I can't move far enough out to get it off that seal surface on the axle
