I removed mine a long time ago as well and drove it on the street. For myself I never drove it in the rain. That seem to be the worse time when the rear tires locked up.
This year I finally bought a after market one and grabbed a 1" MC from PNP. Works better now.

It looks tight in their because of the front Dovetail.
