Well I was under my 83 yota tonight and found my brake valve leaking.  So I was woundering if anyone had ever just bypassed the whole valve instade of changing the darn thing. I would like a little more brake action on the rear anyway. but if anyone has done this and had truoble with it I'd like to know!! I know that for hard rock crawling some ppl put it in the up (loaded ) position for max rear brakes. but has anyone just done away with it altogether? I have 33's on it and the rear brakes  leave a bit to be desired! look foreward to any info given :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown:

try it out.  if they lock up then you can by an aftermarket  proportioning valve from like summit maybe.  may want to see if they have the right threads.  the test i was told to do is to drive down a gravel road and nail the brakes and if they lock up the rears then the pressure needs to be reduced.  i had to do that on my old chebby when i converted to rear disk.
1985 4runner on 35 boggers.  22re, W56 tranny, daul cases with 4:1 in the back case, ford f150 fronts with 63" chevys in the back, cross over steering, full width chevy axles with detroit back and ARB front,

Does it have two locking screws for adjustment on it..I have never really looked that close to the older ones.I know the taco has them..What if you made a bracket to allow more pressuse to the valve.Meaning juat make the bracket push up on the arm more.uknow a bit longer from the axle..i don't know if I would remeove it altogther untill you talk with someone who has..You might find your self doing more brake line plumbing then you want to do..

thanks for the thinking mr4x4, I do have the rod exteded as far as I can now(valve pushed all the way up) just dont see why I can't next just take the thing off. Instead of buying a new one that is! oh and I already have a summit brake valve, got it a few years ago and never built the car I got it for! So if anyone has taken theres off and has had any problem, or not I'd like very much to hear about it. If not I'll put it in a week or two. thanks all.......the fool

hey brainless,,let us know how it works out with out your load valve..i am getting ready to shorten a tocoma 12 inches and have been playing with the idea od moving the load valve or taking it off and saving myself the work of replummbing the brake lines to and from it..so c'mon get moving,,you have a project to do.. :circle:

I DONT KNOW HOW DIFFERENT IT IS BUT I HAVE CORP 14 IN THE REAR AND I TOOK MY VALVE OFF ALL TOGETHER
SEEMS TO WORK FINE
HAVE'NT REAR ENDED ANYONE YET (KNOCK ON WOOD)
OF CORSE I ONLY DRIVE IT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH

just take it off :~~: :~~:, i took mine off years ago, and it does fine, if you took it off with stock 28" tires :oops: it would lock up for sure, but with 33's  :stopit:no problemmo :.order: :.order:

after putting new shoes on  the rear with my old 31's it would lock if i was sailing down a wet highway or on gravel and panic stop :thud: but just seconds befor the front

it is fine to remove the valve.
it will cause lockup under hard or panic braking...
but otherwise its fine.
leave a little air in the rear line to keep proportioning right.:)
i have been running mine for way over a year this way and i love it, i have FULL brake pedal and brakes.
