There is a similar thread in CCC about this. I just heard about it today. A buddy called at lunch time and he has a 96 Tacoma that he just recently bought from a friend. He happened to call a local Toyota dealer because he was already thinking about trading it in on a new one, and he was told that if he drove it up there, they could not legally allow him to drive away in it (probably without first giving it the official Toyota inspection).
Being Pennsylvania, we're a HEAVILY salted state, so we'll be checking both our vehicles, even though the hubby's Taco is an 02, and my 97 is a 4Runner. One of the Q&A on that blog was asking about 4Runners being affected and the answer was that they are made in completely different plants with totally different frame suppliers so they do not expect the 4Runners to be affected.
