Marlin owns a Tundra V8, I think its a 2000 model, and man, we constantly load it down so that the rear suspension is resting on its bump stops.
The biggest load we've ever taken was towing our Flatbed trailer with Marlin's Truck (which is very heavy), 2 22RE engines, 1 2F Landcruiser engine, a bunch of trannys, and I think 48 transfercases in the bed of the truck with a camper shell. We fit every t/case we could in the back, and then had to put the rest on whatever space was left on the trailer PLUS we put some on top of Marlin's camping gear in the bed of his Truck that was on the trailer. So you could imagine we were loaded wwaayy down, and the total combined gross weight of the Tundra + Trailer was just over 14,000 lbs. No joke. Marlin will verify this.
And we carried this load up into Denver, then up into Salt lake city. On the way into Denver, there was a very very steep grade and we had to use 1st gear floored doing about 30 mph, it was crazy. Temp didnt budge, drove just fine. Then on the way up through a small section of Wyoming, the road was completly iced over and we were going up a small grade at about 50 MPH, and if Marlin applied power, the rear tires would actually spin out and the vehicle would yaw sideways. So we had to engage 4WD to keep control when applying power. So thats a great engine. It's peak torque is below 2000rpm which is pretty cool
And I should mention that we have close to 150k on it now. So that's almost 40k miles a year avg for our Tundra and it still feels brand new. The oil pressure is still in the same spot on the gauge as it was from the factory. Great, great truck.
