Does the inner part of the axle by the pumpkin ever bend or twist or is it just the very outside where it tapers??
I have never heard of this....the reason for it on the front is because there is a long and short side axle tube...the long side is "more prone" to bending...There is no long side on the rear axle...these things are pretty much bulletproof
