As a person who's owned and wheeled both for a few years,I say go Toyota.A Toyota is much more reliable and the Jeep has weaker components.Jeep is still a good rig but for a first 4x4 that you plan on Off-Roading,I would pick an 80-85 Toyota.Here's a picture of my old rig and my new project.
You could make a Toyota go as far as that jeep in half the price and Reliability.
