I've had the same ideas...there was a good thread on Pirate where I got some good constructive criticism about my ideas.  Not saying you're a bad parent--just some things you may not have thought of--I hadn't thought of them, either;  Doesn't make either of us a bad parent.

Good for you for checking with DPS.

For the record, I've used heavy ratchet straps to tie my daughter's car seat on top of the center console when we needed to seat 6.  I had two primary straps that tied the harness in her seat to the seat belt/seat frame attachments.  I used two secondary straps to position the seat and keep it from tipping over.

But, at the end of the day, it's ultimately your decision as a parent.

Doesn't PRP have 'preemie' and 'toddler' sized suspension seats?
