It also helps if you rock your steering  :driving: slightly side to side at a very slow roll to unload the drive lines enough for a smoother shift. If you have to you can also unlock the hubs. Ever notice how it works so perfectly when the hubs aren't locked? keep in mind if you lock the hubs and don't move the truck the drivelines won't bind up so shifting will still be easy. It must be driven with the hubs locked before it will be difficult to shift.  It's kinda like pulling an auto trans outa 'Park' on a hill without the park brake set. Try that ans see how it works.
