I'd buy your truck in a heartbeat too!! I love clean 2nd Gens!
Yeah, the gas mileage isn't the greatest with our beloved rigs. I have a 22re, and 31's, and when I go to Central Oregon, I can get up to 20-22 mpg fully loaded, and that isn't driving it lightly either! And one long climb going up over Santiam Pass into Bend. Usually I am pegged out at 4000 rpm in 3rd just trying to keep it at 50mph. But gas mileage around town, I have never tried to average that out.
