I have dual ultimate's in my Tacoma and love it!  I wheel in muddy midwestern/southern slop and wet rocks and spend most of my time in 4.7:1.  I rarely use 2.28:1, only if i really need wheel speed, which most of the time the 4.7:1 can provide.  I love the gear options that having both 4.7:1 and the stock low range provide, i love the crawl speed as well and i would recomend going that route if you have the $$$.  My second runner up would be for stock duals.
2002 taco ext cab trd, 3.4 5spd.  255/58/16, OME 882s, all pro bumpers f/r, Inchworm front plate, crawler mounted with an mc07 XD to an inchworm lefty, marlin 4.7 gears, marlin 30spline output, RAD designs triple sticks.  Fj 80FF rear with a spartan locker.
