Wasn't the chute was preprogrammed to automatically deploy at 5000 ft. elevation?
Would have been a plus in case he became incapacitated on the way down.... blacked out, whatever.
BTW his visor was fogging up during the ascent. The visor heater started working before he jumped, when he switched from capsule power to suit power.
