would you trim the frame so that the spring don't bottom out on it?

Not sure that it would. I'd cycle the suspension before I notched the frame just to check.

Thanks, I agree, however it may lower my rear too much and I may not even do it. I'll have to check that out when I get home.

Yeah...not sure if I would want to, I really like the way the suspension rides right now.

I remember reading some 4x4 mag that covered some prerunner pickups, and they were running the shackle attachment point above the frame.  And they were running like 12" or so of shackle that was plated and reinforced along the outer sides.  Which gave more droop and compression out of the springs!  Instead of the 6" or so range of motion in the stock shackles it gave them more like 14" of shackle movement!  I wish I could find the article, it explained it better and the pics really drove the idea home!  Something to think about!

So, I am thinking about mounting my shackle hanger on the inside of the frame for the rear, this should lower the rear a bit and I think it will work.

What do you guys think? :dunno:

I think Im gonna loose more blood  :rofl2:

Since Dave demonstrated the incorrect method of cutting off shackles for me, I decided to use a Milwaukee Portaband saw this time. The results and safety were greatly improved. (gonna have to remember to buy one of those)

So measuring nice and safe by being under a truck entirely held up by 2 high-lift jacks, I was able to measure a difference of about 3.5" difference between mounting them below the frame and above the frame. That would lower my ride height 1.75" (about the same height as the pivot blocks) and I'm pretty sure that would level my truck out with a light load (no camping gear) so I think I am OK with mounting them above the frame with Marlin's 5.5" shackles (was running 5" before).

It kinda sucks for Dave though, that's not an easy place to weld, might have to use an Arc welder for this one...

Yes Very!!

I'm am interested in this idea to help keep the COG lower.     Make sure the shackle doesnt rub the frame.  you wouldn't want anymore noise.  haha

Dude that will be cake for me to weld  :yesnod: I think we can get good penatration all around and if you want we can drill two holes right under the mount and button weld them for more strength

Ok, MINISIMP and I finished the rear shackles up today, overall, I like it and the angle came out great! The truck is now 1.75" lower!

on another note, I like your shackle mount.  I think it will only work well with the pivot blocks though, because the springs won't want to twist as much. I had another question but i am :boozer: and forgot it.
