« on: Jan 01, 2016, 07:02:26 PM »
Hope some one can help. 1990 SAS with fluid assist. Really having trouble with pumps. Running 38.5" IROK bias ply. Very bad foaming problem , have tried tranny fluid and p/s fluid. Levels go up and down. Inline cooler. Any input would really be helpful. Thank you !! Happy New Year !!

When I installed power steering in my 86 it took forever to get it to stop foaming up. I just kept adding fluid until it finally settled in and stopped foaming or should I say purging the air in the lines and cooler.

Toyota uses tranny fluid for power steering, NOT power steering fluid.

They say to bleed the system, is to put the front end on jack stands, and slowly crank the steering wheel back and forth slowly.  Some people claim that they have to do it for 20-30 minutes, let it cool down, and do it again up to 3 or 5 times.  Some also say not to go lock to lock.

Don't use power steering fluid.  Toyota designed their system to use ATF.

I do this, but without the engine running at first.
Time to go wheelin!
