ok, i am doing an experiment. if my theory works thie mod will be awesome. i dont know if i want to say everything i plan right now before i do it of not. bassically i want to make my front drive shaft snip reverse of stock. what do i need to do this? i have a fsm and i see all the parts, but i dont know how i woul dmake it spin reverse. anyone know? btw if someone wants to donate a Tcase and this theory works i will do it to your tcase , i know its a long shot, but if someone has one laying around it WILL be worth your help!

You want to put that into english for the rest of us...
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

:ack:   :-\\  ???   :help:  :headscratch:  :dunno:
I'm so confused, but I think he wants to make his driveshaft spin in the opposite direction?
I hope this is just :bull crap:  :smack:

jared A

yes, i want to make it spin backwards, sorry i didnt explain it well earlier...i just need to find a way to make it spin the opposite way of now.

MiniSimp

You realize that will make you go backwards, right?

89 toy

i think he wants to make it go backwards so he can flip the third over and get high pinion just buy a nigh pinion its way easier if it were that simple some one would of done it by now
89 ext cab sas with diamond +4 1/2" housing 30 spline longs and hub gears, hp elocker, six studs, arp studs in everything, taco rear with elocker. swaped out 22re for 3.4l supercharged, urd 2.0" pulley, urd fuel management, downey headers, flowmaster, cold air intake, marlin clutch that is straining to hold up

MiniSimp

That makes more sense.
You would need a reversed gear adapter somewhere in there, maybe off the t-case flange.
Just buy the high pinion, or dont hit rocks. :gap:

jared A

i dont want to do it just for the high pinion, but the diff will be stronger, the gears will be spinning the corrct way instead of reveres. sso i will be getting a high pinion and a stronger diff. if i do this i will be putting in a v6 3rd. this way it will be WAY strong!

89 toy

i think but not sure arnt high pinions reverse cut gears

Um....I think if there was a way to do this properly, Camo, or Marlin, or Brian would have a write up on it somewhere.

Put a post on Pirate 4x4 and they will tell you exactly why you can not do this.

im not prepared to get flamed yet...lol

MiniSimp

I've been flamed pleanty of times, but it was worth every post when I really needed to find out something.

Post it in the Newbie Section, it is a flaming free zone.

Use Marlins new transfercase that disconnects the rear then use reverse ???

I think it would be easier to find someone to cut the proper gears for the high pinion to run in the rear. The gears are allready cut for front end use.

The other way you would have to make a extra gear drive to attach to your transfercase. That would cost more than going with a high pinion from the start.

remember also that you would have to mod the front axle housing to clear a ring gear on the oposite side.  The high pinion uses a ring gear on the same side as standard therefore necessitating the reverse cut gear.  In the front it really is easier just to put in the high pinion.  Now, if somone where to make a high pinion with the ring gear on the oposite side and then modifies a rear housing, that would be the way to go, because it would run on the drive side of the gear.

Your pinion bearings will not oil properly if you flip the chunk.  If you can fix this than put your engine in your bed.

I went off at the idiot on pirate who replyed to your post.  Questions are ment to be asked and you found the right place to ask it.  Just don't listen to the idiots who have no idea what they are talking about.

lilbuddy

Yes, you did. I posted to. I wrote Seriosuly. Just remember, youre more of a newbie then he is.

Im with this guy, there would definately be oil starvation to those bearings. It is a great idea though. We need people like you to keep comg up with interesting stuff!!!

thanks bro!!! i didnt say i was going to do this, i just wanted to know if it was possible or not...just brainstorming

They should call the PBB the Flame Board.  Because when ever someone asks a question they always get flamed.  No matter what the question is.  thats why i only ask questions here on the MCB.

jared A

yea, i dont think im going to ask any more questions there, most the people just flame just to get their post counts up,and they have no lives

I go by Montezuma on the pirate board. I replied to your post, (read: long reply) and didn't flame you (or atleast wasn't trying to if it came out that way). At any rate, what you are talking about doing is a bad idea. A highpinion gear set runs on the drive side of the gears, not the coast, when used in a front end application. Your concept of flipping a stock third around to try and save a few bucks is going to cost more and probably be weaker in the longrun IMHO. And for what? So you can avoid spending money on a highpinion third? Are you actually breaking thirdmembers enough to try and do this mod? I don't think this idea is a good one, but thinking outside the box never hurts.

jared A

before you replied, i thought it would be running on the stronger side of the gears, so i thought that it would be 1. stronger 2. high pinion at the same time, but now i know it wont be worht it
