Elocker dif  with blown up 488. I checked specs and backlash was good bear cbpl was iffy. And pinion Pl was definitely no good. I'm blaming setup here. I'll check everything after tear down, and if all is in spec I'll reinstall with same bearings and some used 488 I have on the shelf. Easy peezy.

taco rear elocker axle. Chevy 63s. And semi built front. I have some old school longs for it. And a elocker also. I'm gonna do 5th stud and possibly trunion eliminator before I throw in under the truck. Definitely getting a full rebuild and cleaning

I'm waiting for intake parts to show up. And my an6 fuel line fittings and line. I found a 12mm banjo to an6 fitting. I'm going to adpater this directly at the fuel filter. And put an an6 fitting on my tank end. Progress is basically stalled on the engine until I get these things. I have my clutch and flywheel and everything associated with that. I'm going to be starting trans mounts today.

If your not going to follow specs, don't do something that's critical like a dif. Things have been engineered by guys 100x smarter than me. They are designed to work a certain way. We as layman are given easy numbers to follow. Specs. Thats what this entire hobby is all about.

That being said whoever built this did not follow spec. the pinion had .072 of shim. the carrier bolts were loose, one came out, hit the retaining ring of the large carrier bearing, wiped it out. This removed all preload from this bearing, allowing extreme deflection of the ring gear, which in turn took out the pinion due to the crap pattern because of improper shim. Thats my take on it anyways. I've built a few difs.

Anyways new bearing is on the way, should be back together by the weekend and hoping to have the chevs swapped and axle in this weekend.

It's been raining alot here. I squeezed the truck under the carport tho. I got the elocker rebuilt and the axle back together. It's ready to go under the truck. I have some new fox 14 inch shocks for it also. I need to install my chevs but I do them with a cherry picker. So I have to build a rear bumper to lift from. I definitely can't do that until I have a full day of sun.

I got my intake done. Got my harness taped and wrapped in brand new loom. I left my battery in the stock spot and just got nice welding ground cable from work yo extend my battery cable to the driver side to a post. I then carried all my power wires to this post. I added the ground from the passenger side directly to the frame. And added a large ground from block to frame to body on the driver side also.

I've said it before, but I'm hoping to be driving by the end of the month. The motor aspect of the swap is done. Motor runs great.

random pic of a beater 85 I picked up for basically free.

I got it for parts. Motor is smoked. It has a title tho and is complete. I'd take a grand for it. Pm if interested.

Fan is in. Brakes are in. Battery is wired. Everything works and is dialed. Waiting on a throttle cable and a an6-5/16th adapter to adapt my tank line to my an line. I'm doing transfer case mount and clutch line tomorrow. Hoping to have it all ready to drive by friday. Still have to swap the rear axle. But shouldn't be too hard.

I deleted the heater switching valve. My newer tacoma doesn't have one. The heater cote constantly loops. It had a vent that diverts air either over the core or not. Mine won't have this. It will always vent warm air with the fan on. But that's fine with me. I never use the fan other than for heat.

I extended my e5 plug so I could mount my ecu at the kick panel. Then I bent up a 304 stainless backing plate for the ecu, and I over bent the sides 2 degrees so it grabs the ecu tightly. I put double sided tape on the stainless and glued it to the kick panel. It works great and looks clean.

I mounted my obd scanner into one of the stock mounting bolts. Mounted my cor to a stock bolt mount under dash also. Everything is nice and tight and out of the way. Just waiting for a clear day again to do my fuel lines and finish case mounts. Also the throttle cable won't be here until Monday.

I ended up with a one from a 96 taco. Worked. Just had to drill a hole in the firewall and use a throttle pedal from a 4wd 1st gen since mine was 2wd had a different pedal.

Got my trans in. Made my rear drive line. Gotta bleed the brakes tomorrow and Ima test drive it. The trans I got is bad I'm almost positive. It's super sloppy and I can't get it into 4th. I have gotten it into 4th twice but that's it. It seems to go into the other gears ok but sloppy. I haven't tried with the truck on yet. We will see.

On a good note I bought a police theft recovery. Scored a basically brand new 22re. W56. Top shift case with 4.7 gears. And a built front axle with longs 529. Locker. Marlin highsteer. All that. So I got some good parts ready to go into this thing.

Pic is of where my case sits. That mount will come off and I'll bend up a plate to guard the case and trans. I'll get some pics of how I mounted my case and trans tomorrow.

Turned the truck on and the trans grenaded I thibk. It's stuck in reverse and sounds like it's going to break inside. It's possible it's my clutch but I don't think so  the clutch engages and disengages fine.

:yikes: Good thing you picked up that other parts truck!

She's on the road. Gotta dial in some things. But it's drivable. My clutch engages right off the floor. But I noticed my master is weeping fluid. So I tbink that's my issue.

My speedo cable bit the dust. Think from installing it over and over. It seems to have pulled out from the cluster portion.

I got my exhaust on. I had to extend where the cat mounts by 1 inch. I went down pas side. Cat next to case. Actually was easy to fit. I'm buying a 2 inch die this weekend for my bender and will make a nice exhaust once it get here. Easy peezy.

I gotta still do chevy springs. I ordered new bilsteins all around tho. Thats next weekend hopefully.

I don't have to smog it for another 4 months. Should be plenty of time to work out the kinks.

Super fun to drive. Rev limiter sounds great. I did my entire creek in just 2wd open. I have elocker rear but jver used ot. Just drifting like a sob. Super stoked on the swap. Thanks all who commented and replied to pms. Thanks big Mike for the documentation that took enough of the fear away to be able to dive into something like this. Braaaaaapp!!

I've since put about 3200 miles on this teuck. I've driven it to sac. And to Klamath falls. It runs great. After getting my speedo fixed I didn't really notice an improvement in power or mpg. But it stopped popping on the decel. My mpg is a co sister 21 mpg now. Thats on 488 gears with 35s. I just bought some nice 37s. And will be putting them on in the next couple weeks. When I do highsteer and all the front work. I'm going to fully plate the frame. Do shock hoops. Ruf custom pack. Front bumper. And install a buit front axle with elocker. I still haven't gotten around to doing the rear yet. But the swap runs great. Super happy with it
