locker in toyota 4.88 geared third

hi i currently have the source to two 4.88 toyota thirds for really cheap, and want to throw them into my 85 4runner project. question is, will i be able to install a locker into this third? i called the local 4x4 shop and they almost had a heart attack saying they couldn't have a locker installed.

I see no reason why you couldn't purchase a locker for them.

I have 1985 running gear with 4.88 R&P with a Detroit locker in the rear and an Aussie locker in the front.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

If they are factory 4.88 3rds from a 2nd gen 4Runner then they are indeed different than any other 4.88 R&P that would go into a non factory 3rd. That being said they still accept V6 lockers just like any other V6 8" 3rd. See here for more info: http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/
