You guys are talking about horsepower and losing it with plate bumpers, but I have plate bumpers front and rear, with an 8274 winch and 150 feet of cable on it. I'm still passing up 22REs and 3.0s with tube bumpers or stock bumpers. My buddy is also on 33s but instead of stock gearing like I have, he's got 4.56 gears. He doesn't have bumpers front or rear and I beat him off the line and in the long stretch on the freeway I can still pull on him... Not to mention tube bumpers aren't exactly dot legal.. But that's just my $.02

DOT who? And unless you have a 3.4 for or newer its a gutless pig, no matter how you slice it.

Clearly plate bumpers add horse power.

Oh hell no. 100lbs of dead weight front and back. But for fallen trees there is nothing better to move them out of the way.

I can appreciate it, but it is a little too mad-max-ish for me and would look out of place on a first gen.  My favorite design so far is the last one I posted, and I'm thinking of maybe making one of these for the bed, too

This setup is awesome. I might have to change my bedrack to this style so my RTT isn't just resting on the bedrails.

Hi all-

My profile is still too new to post attachments, but the Outlaw Overland (Formerly Badland Bumpers) makes my favorite front bumper for the 79- it's probably what I'll end up getting. I think it's called the bambi basher  :gap:
