I found this on CL and was wondering what you guys thought? I'm not super experienced with Toyotas yet.

Looks like all they did was clean the cylinder and put the old pistons back in with new rings.  And a paint job.  A rebuilt motor will generally have new pistons!!

Keep looking bud!

Yeah, those pistons don't look too "new".

Doesn't appear to be that many items on the work order to indicate the shop did an actual rebuild, likely only paid the shop to inspect and replace what was needed.  My concern would be the quality of work performed by the shop,  they missed the domed pistons and '92(if they were told what it was going into), didn't take a lot of pride in how they cleaned the pistons, what else did they do a half assed job on?

For what they are asking, if you do the assembly yourself, it should cost you about the same for all new parts, machine work, alignment of pistons on the crankshaft, clean/inspect the block, etc.

$700 into a short block? Max $150 for the hone/hot tank/paint, $50 for piston rings, $100 for quality bearings... thats still only $300... HELL NO!
