85 Runner, Can-Back, Roof Brackets/Hardware/Instructions
« on: May 27, 2015, 04:44:35 PM »
I have a Can-Back top and I am wanting to get (or make) the mounting brackets for the roof rack.  Does anybody have them installed?  Looking for dimensions of mounting brackets, etc.

The Can-Back site still shows they are not ready for production yet so not really counting on being able to order from them directly.  Will be a purchase or maybe I'll cut my teeth on fabbing/welding.

Any help would be great.

If I don't ask the stupid question, who will?

I've been wanting to do this too. I might have some good pictures on my home computer that I have collected. If I find any, I'll post them.

Thanks, my current top is on the way out and if they don't start production soon enough I'm gonna have a boat place do it that does custom work for boats.  I figure they can use the exisiting top as a blueprint.  But since I don't have the design of the brackets im holding off so i have them before even appraoching the place.

Their site says they are upgrading/changing the design a little.  a bunch of the changes they are planning I was already thinking of having the custom place figure out for me.

I found a couple photos on my computer. They aren't very good quality but hopefully they will give you an idea of what can-back had done. If you figure it out post good photo's of it. I know Steve Sasaki of power tank has this set-up on his 4runner.

I think some right angle brackets bolt onto these four locations which should be pre-existing on your frame.

Then the rack mount bolt to the right angle brackets.

Thx for the pics.  I think there is a certain way they 'water proofed' the brackets using neoprene or something like that.

Would prefer to just get a replacement from Can-Back, but if I can't hold out that long I'm sure the boat shop I plan on using can help me figure it out.
