I have a super turbo on my isuzu trooper without a cat and it sounds pretty good. Not raspy at all. I had a dynomax ultra flo on a v6 tacoma and it had a very strong growl without being too loud. A friend has a flowmaster delta 50 on a 4cyl 4runner and it almost sounds like a v6. My pickup has a delta 40 and no cat. Probably a little louder than you want. I would suggest an ultra flo if you don't mind spending about $90 for the muffler. Second pick is the delta 50 flowmaster. Probably around $50. Make sure to ask for the delta flo. Takes the rasp out of it.

the flowmasters have different chabers and different series that give different tones and sounds,,so you just need to find one you like..

only thing about flowmaster i dont really like the tinny sound of them.

I also ran a 40-series Flowmaster on my MR2 and I hated the raspy tinny sound too.

So then I graduated to a Dynomax Ultra Flow SS (which is a bit excessive for an R-engine). It's a straight through muffler that has hardly any backpressure.
Then when I decided to build a NA engine, I went with a Dynomax Super Turbo because it is more restrictive, and I loved the sound.

The Ultra Flow I had (2.5") was pretty loud and the Super Turbo (2.25") sounded very nice and had a great tone.

I always liked Dynomax and have had no problems with their products. Good luck

I'm not a fan of Flowmaster for any vehicle.  I don't like the fact that all V-8 (and some V-6) cars all sound alike with Flowmaster exhaust, they have an engineered sound rather than soundling like the engine.  Chevy, Ford and Dodge motors all have a unique sound and they should still sound unique with an aftermarket exhaust system.  Also, I am not that impressed with the Flowmaster flow technology, I think that most brands are equal or better.  If you look on their website, the interior sound is nearly as loud as outside and much louder than stock.  I prefer mufflers that you can roll up the windows and forget about.  I'm not sure what this has to do with Toyota's, except that I don't want my V-8 Tundra soundling like every domestic truck on the road.  I am partial to Dynomax myself, they flow really well and are fairly quiet with a great sound (on V-8s don't know about I-4s).  I was told mini turbo muffler with 2-1/4 (?) exhaust was the best for power on a 22-R.  Just my  :twocents:

You're right about the inside noise on the flowmasters blackdiamond.  I do love the sound of my truck though, :yesnod:  Although I prolly would go with aa Dynomax my self, if the flowmaster wasnt on the truck when I got it

Hyena

My friends running a mini flowmaster with 2 1/4 inch exhaust and it almost sounds like a v8.  I think i am gonna get a turbo muffler from Riebes and a 2 1/4 inch pipe built from Murchies in georgetown.  they are the ones who built my friends exhaust.  it was $100 for them to weld on the muffler and then bend and weld the rest of the pipe.

I got 2 1/4 and a flowmaster 40 and just a small turn down after the muffler tucked up as high as possible. I love how it sounds, not very loud when the doors are on but when i take my doors off man that thing sounds so loud it rumbles inside the cab. Its loud but i love the throwty sound
