A little late on starting a build thread cause the truck is mostly done. But as you all know, it never ends. Picked up an 87 extra cab 22re a few months ago. The plan was yank axles and single 4.7 case off my hacked up 84 standard cab 22r that I hated driving with a passion. And do a quick SAS on the new rig. Then be ready to wheel within a month... Yeah... Didn't happen.

Got truck at a local tow yard, right place at the right time as i drove by on a random day off as they put a for sale sign on it. haggled price, ran to bank, came back with a trailer, it drove maybe a total of 300 yrds once i owned it before it was getting cut up. onto my trailer, off of my trailer and into the garage.

Before I even had axles out from my old rig I had a order of heims in the mail and ORI's on order. originally this was supposed to be a cheap quick build, got the truck for $900 and made that money back from selling tires and bumpers off it and the motor/tranny out of my 84. but that just hasn't worked out for me.

threw up a pic of my 84 on its last trip to the con, and then of it on the trailer ready to go to the scrap yard.

Ended up cutting front of the frame off and starting from scratch. Gained lots of room. Motor is my limiting factor on up travel.

so what it has got...

-front axle-
5.29's aussie locker
OG longs
tg chromo hub gears
ARP knuckle studs
Trunnion bearing eliminator
ifs hubs
tacoma rotors/calipers
1.5" wheel spacers
surplus center HA ram

-Rear axle-
ifs axle
5.29s lockright

-suspension-
  -front-
triangulated 3 link w/ panhard, 2" .250" wall square tube lower links
16" ORI's

-rear-
chevy 63's
12" bilstien 5100's

future is 4 link with coils and shocks or just air shocks undecided right now

-drivetrain-
stock 22re
W56B
dual 21 spline cases 4.7 rear

35" bfg km2's for now

valon5150

More pics. That's about all I got right now... I'm looking at getting some used 37s right now from a guy on pirate, but he sucks at communication. So if I don't then I'll probably be starting a cage in a few weeks with that money

Dingman.

valon5150

thanks. got a halfway decent pic of the truck as it sits

Thanks guys. Went wheeling local last 2 weekends. Tamarack lake. First trip had roughly 1' of snow and that was fun. Yesterday was mostly melted. I rarely think to take pics while im out. But here's a few poser shots after unloading from the trailer today.

Picked up some 37x14x15 irocks on 15x10 steelies for $250. Little tread left. Figured couldn't beat the price should be plenty of tread for rocks, and it'd be nice to step up from 35s. Side by side the irocks are maybe 1" taller than my bfgs that still have over half tread I wasn't really thinking I guess. All I thought was 37s cheap! :smack: oh well. I still threw them on for yesterday and was real happy with them in the rocks. So I'm thinking keep them for a while. Going to Rubicon next month and we'll see how I like them after that.

Next weekend I plan do ad a little bit more plating to my tcase mount/skid. So far ive managed to put a few dents in the .120 wall tube, maybe I'll pick up a stick or two of tube and start making rear hoop for exo...we'll see about that though

Dingman.

Honestly that is about when iroks start kicking ass in the snow when the tread gets down that far!  Keep them until winter and try them out and let everyone know what you think!  I think my old 39.5"s were lower tread than that!

valon5150

Well it was a crazy winter. Unfortunately didn't have time to do much snow wheeling. Built cage, not extremely satisfied with it, but it'll do the job, rushed through some of it. need to figure out picture posting thing again...

Currently have a few holes cut in the floor of the cab, got 5 point harnesses and am going to make a harness bar that will be welded to frame and then tie into the exo through the roof.

Sold the 37s, surprisingly i made back what I got them for. Back on my km2s. I'm on the look out for decent used set of 37-39s for a 15" rim. I bought some 15" rims with 2.5" backspacing. They will keep me at the same width I am right now but eliminate my wheel spacers.

valon5150

Finished harnesses today. And loaded up on my mostly done trailer to go have some fun tomorrow.

Need to paint the tube still.

OVRAROK

looks great, harness bar came out nice

Thanks guys, to be honest the two tubes going through the roof didn't end up matching cause the second hole ended up a bit higher than the first.... Luckily I don't do this for a living ha-ha

Wish I would have let you know that you can get some nice rubber grommets to keep water coming in the cab

I saw the ones general Lee used on his taco on pirate. But due to laziness I'll just end up using silicone

valon5150

So I'd like to change out my Chevy 63s for something better. Would like to link it with coils, but don't really have the desire to spend that much time on it.

Maybe f150 springs. Anyone have suggestions on what they've done leaf wise that's out of the norm and flexed well? Sick of catching the back of the Chevy's on everything

Packed up and ready for Fordyce.

Hey Steven- it was a fun trip. Great meeting you and Jensine. Going to have to plan another run.  :beerchug:

Nice photos.... I'm a little puzzled by the line that was taken?  It looks like a for-sure flop?

There is no good line on that obstacle. Its all but impossible in anything but a buggy.

Me and the wife have always walked the wall on the right, never flopped yet. But I have not been there in a few years!! In fact I walked the right line when I was still IFS on 33's, but that was a long time ago!!

Yeah the wall is easy. That is the line we took as well. I'm talking about the hole that they are in.
