Hybrid R151F with R150F gears
« on: Apr 09, 2015, 06:10:11 AM »
Hi everybody. I'm sure this question has been asked before (though I didn't have much luck searching for an answer), but can I swap the R150F's taller 1st and 2nd gear into my R151F? I would appreciate if somebody could list the parts required if this is possible.

I don't know if it's possible or not, I would think so but not without some specialty tools,  but I've been in the same boat and I just swapped the tail and bell housings from the 151 to the 150.

Marlin offers the different first gear on his R151f rebuilds so I would imagine you could do it

Just out of curiosity... Why not fit a r150 as a whole

It has a chain drive transfer case rather than the gear drive transfer case that is part of the r151

Ah, the r151s here are chain driven from factory...

I'm running a hybrid just like you are asking about. You have to change the entire cluster. So like was mentioned.....R150F guts in R151F case. Everything inside aside from the gear ratios is the same. Must be the early R150F from a 3.0 however.

1st and 2nd on a R151F might be good for crawling but it sucks on the street.

The R151's were put behind the turbo charged 22re's.  The R150's were for the 3.0's.  I don't have issues with the R151's taller 1st and 2nd gears.  Just that you have to grab 2nd rather quickly when launching off the line.

ovraok, he was asking about swapping out internal parts into his same R151F case. Doing this lets you keep your 4 cyl T-cases and still fit the 22RE.

You are correct that a R150F from a 3.0 V6 will not fit the 22RE or the 4 cyl gear drive cases unless you get an adapter. You CAN put those guts into the R151F cases no problem though. Exactly what I have done. Later when I did my 3.4 swap, I swapped on a 3.0 bell housing so it would bolt up to the engine.
