I have the 5" lift on my 85 with a shakle. About 5 1/2" total lift. Anybody else with this lift, will I need a long travel Front shaft or if I lengthen it will it be long enough to flex fully?

I think you will need a longer slip..The all pro stuff don't flex bad in the front so It will be needed..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

Hyena

I had 6 inches of lift and no flex at all and my d-shaft was too short.  you will prolly need a longspline.

WHITE_TRASH

Nope a long slip isnt needed.  The rear shaft is just too short.  The only reason a long slip is needed ont he front is due to the shackles being bahind the axle which causes the front axle to move forward and back away from the t-case.  On the rear the axle spings in an arch torwards the t-case so there isnt much travel being needed in the slip.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Hyena

O ya, i meant my front driveline, the rear one was fine.

FatAzzRunner

yeah, you need a longer travel front.

If I were you, I would build a square front drive shaft and call it done.  Mine has like 15"s of travel.  It is cheap, easy and STRONGER THAN HELL!!!!!!!!!!

I bought one a dem der High Angle Drivelines for the rear on my Runner and I have since moved my rear axle back and have only about 3.5 or 4 inches of rear shaft travel and I have yet to seperate the rear.

The front on the other hand travels in and out a ton and will seperate on you on the trail on even the easiest stuff.

I would really like a square one but I don't have the means of building it! Do you know anyone who would build it for me if I sent them the axle?

Hyena

All you really need to do is send someone the measurements from t-case flange to thrid member flange.

FatAzzRunner

U can also use your old front driveshaft yokes to go towards building the new square front.

What you need to do is do like Hyena said and get the measurement from tcase flange to 3rd member flange and tell them how much slip you want.  Then it will take 2.5"x2.5"x.25" thick tubing and 2"x2"x.25" thick tubing to make the actual driveshaft.

It should not be hard to find a 4x4 shop that will cut and weld it up for you.  If you lived closer I would do it.

here is a thread with a picture that White Trash posted.  If you want the cv on it then you would weld the 2.5x2.5 piece to that.

My friend has an 85 with a rancho 4" he was fine front and rear with the stock shackles.  He put 1.5" longer shackles front and rear and the front driv line would pull apart, but only at full flex, I mean right befor the front tire came off the ground.  We put limiting straps on it and it stayed together, until he can get a new drivline.
