Hi everyone. My 84 bed needs a replacement and I'm thinking of a simple welded up aluminium replacement. Sounds expensive but thought I'd see what's around. I drive down to the SW from BC just about every winter for some desert fun so possibly there's an outfit down there that does this sort of thing? If anyone has any recommendations of a shop or whatever in Nev/Ariz/Cali and periphery please let me know. Also I'd be interested in an original if someone had one for sale or a recommendation on a fibreglass unit being made somewhere. I'm checking on line for this but thought maybe someone has a line on something I haven't come across. Thanks. W.

www.toyotafiberglass.com does fiberglass beds, they are expensive though

A 3rd gen bed fits on nicely.  Body lines match too!  And they don't rust out like the 2nd gens do!  I have a 3rd gen on my truck, and I love it better than the 2nd gen beds.  Got friends always offering me free 2nd gen beds.  But I tell them nope!

For the price of steel and aluminum, a good used bed is far cheaper.

FYI, the tail light harness's are different.  So, you will have to swap out pins in the harness to make them work correctly.  Which is easy.

just for reference, you can use a 79-95 bed on any of the trucks for those years. of course, a longbed isn't going to fit on a shortbed without having some mounting spots in the same spot

I vote for a custom tube bed

Thanks everyone for your input. Appreciated. I'll look into beds from other years and generations. W.

Personally, I think it looks terrible 100% of the time people attach beds from other year toyotas.  But that's just me.  I'd stick it out and find the same style bed, or buy fiberglass... or get flared fiberglass sides and front fenders!
