Hello I have a 98 and a 91 4runner both are stock which one would you turn into a family wheeler and keep as the daily driver. Pretty much looking to see what might be the better todo what I'm wanting to do. 91s manual 98s auto. Both being v6s.  Thanks for any input

Id sell the 91 and make the 98 a wheeler and Daily driver.

or build the 91 with a 3.4 swap in mind for when the 3.0 dies.

We currently have the 91 for sale but kinda thinking we might hold on to it. The 98 has the e locker which I've read people seem to want in a 3rd gen. And for the 91 I've thought the same thing motor swap when it dies. I'm wanting to go with a straight Axel in which ever one I build. If I go with the 98 I'll swap in a 5 speed. Seems like swapping a straight Axel in is going to be around same price and work either one I choose. I like the thought of the 98 cause has little more room seems to have more power and seems more stable. Thank you guys for the input keep it coming its got my wheels turning. Thanks

Which one is cleaner? Keep the nice one as a dd and off road the other. Both are nice because of the 4 doors for room. Only downfall is that pesky 3.0, I myself prefer the 1st and third gens. I would wheel the 2nd gen. Or sell the 2nd gen and buy a 1st gen 4runner 84 or 85 with straight axle already there. Lot less money to just throw in gussets, cross over steering, rebuild axle, new leafs. As opposed to a sas and the labor, unless you plan on putting it in yourself.

I'd go with the 98. Better motor. Easier to swap a Trans than to do all of the motor wirng. They're both gonna be a little top heavy but that's fine. I'd rather put the effort into a newer nicer rig.

get a 1st gen runner, they are technically convertibles and the fam will love that part. lighter than the heavy 2nd or 3rd gen runners too.

but if u decide to keep one i would sell that 3.0 runner and toss that money in a jar for an sas for the 3rd gen. my buddy has an sas 3rd gen linked with a 44 up front and 9" ford in the rear. its soo sick and wheels damn good!

Sell them both and get a 1 gen runner with a solid axle and have some MO eyes left over

I love my auto in the 3.4... stack another 2.28 behind it and you're set.

Never thought much about buying another one. We started with a jeep kids loved it something about havering the top off just added to the fun factor for them. Now that baby #3 will be here the jeep went down the road. It's a pretty good thought parting ways with the 91 since its do cherry. I really could see it being worth while building the 98 since its getting to be time to replace some worn parts. I'll be doing the work myself well with help from marlin forum. Guess ill kick around the thought of 1st gen but 4 doors makes life easy. Thanks for all the input lots of great thoughts
