1981 headers
« on: Mar 18, 2014, 08:30:37 AM »
Hey guys, I've been on here about everyday, just looking at builds, how to's, ect. I am close to rebuilding the 22R and I was hoping you guys can help me out. I have been buying parts the last few months and know I'm ready to order a header. I was going to get the LCE street header but it says for 82-84 only. I emailed lce and he couldn't tell me if it would bolt up correctly. Anyone know from experience? Also the doug thorley header has had bolt up issues I have heard. Anyone with an 81 22r have and input/experience?

Thanks guys :crossed:

No issues with the Thorleys? As far as install goes?

I just bought a Thorley tri-Y the other day. I've been reading for years on the issue and seems that the 4 into 1(LCE and TG) headers give a little more top end power were the tri-Y (which is very similar to the stock routing) is more for low end power. Also read stay under 2.5 inch pipe and you will have a good exhaust system with enough back pressure to keep some of the low end power we need so much. And I believe the LCE and Thorley are the only headers legal in CA for the first gen truck

i got mine from Jeggs. super fast shipping. they said i would ship out the 31st of march, showed up on the 29th. I have not installed them yet, but some of the welding issues ive seen on some youtube videos look to be fixed, shouldn't be a problem

Thanks! I ended up receiving the headers right away. Took maybe 5 days. I haven't installed them yet. My engine is getting machined at the moment. Hopefully I will have it all back together Friday :crossed: Ill let you guys know how it goes!
