Trying to be strait

     This week I am going to bob the bed of my 85 x-tra cab, How are you guys making sure that you are making strit 90 degree cut.  I already have the mesurements marked on the bed i just want to make sure that I mark my cut lines as strait and true as possible.

Yeah, hang a piece of wood or something over the side of the bed, attach a string, and attach something to the string. Use a marker and draw a line parallel to the string, and if you trust gravity, then you've got 90degrees

And for the cutting, I cut from the top of the bed to the floor then I use a piece of string tied to a washer and slide in into the cut I just made.  I pull the string across tot he opposite side of the bed and put it in that cut as well.  Then I paint the string with a rattle can and i have a nice straight line across the floor.

you can just use ur eyes like i did.... i didnt measure till the second cut, i just made marks 14 inches over from the first cut every 3-4 inches going down so the second cut will be the same.... if there are any iregularities then it will show when measureing for the second cut off the first cut edge... u get what im sayin???go to rig gallery and click on my baby to to see some photos!!! just take your time and it comes out nicely

Good idea about the straight floor cut, I didnt think about that. Oh wait, I usually just dont think at all

i forgot to mention that i still used tape for the first cut... i just layed the tape down as streight as i could!!

I used a spring to mark the line so it is straight.  the curve of the spring matched the curve of the bed side perfectly.

Thats a good Idea to bad I don't have any extra springs laying around my house maybe I'll jusst use the ones on my truck

I used a piece of string and spray painted over it. nice straight line all the way down,it's not as hard as it looks

egzactly, but I am taking the bed off and putting it on some Harbor Freight Jack stands and I'll make sure that it is level before I mark for my cuts.

Back up straight against a cinder block wall and romp it....no cutting involved
