Not with a rusted out bed, and likely front fenders, rear of cab, suspension, frame, etc.  If it was rust free, here in CA it would sell at that price, but the way it is now I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it, and that would be if the cab was rust free.

Almost can't get one for that price at auction, Toyota's are prized trucks 2wd or 4wd.

They are great wheelin rigs. On top of all else.....its a controlled market. If everyone is asking $5k well then...looks like ur options are slim.... Buy a jeep for $25000 :) idk..i didnt read through everything on here..just the first few lines on the top post.

Is that clean or beat up?  I have an '85 2wd X-cab that I have restored that is just about ready to sell, so I guess I will be testing the current market trend.  This one sold about 30 months ago for $2750(asking price), the buyer didn't even try to haggle, and I thought I priced it a bit high at the time.

In the Portland, OR area, the average asking prices are:

2WD
1st gen or earlier  --  $1000-1500
2nd gen                     $1500-2000
3rd gen                      $2000-3500

4WD
1st gen                      $1500-2000
2nd gen                     $2000-3000
3rd gen                      $2500-5000

And these are mainly stock form.  If they are asking less, then they are beat.  I wish I wasn't broke, I'd get some killer deals.  And right now there are some early 2wd ones that are in good condition that have some serious potential.

And the average 3rd gen 3.0 4Runner goes for $1500 all day long.

I understand where your coming from, I was in the market for a nice toyota for a while and just had to wait it out tell I found the right deal about 5 months ago, I was able to find one here in central ca 85 ext. cab 22re with brand new 35" tires for $2600 he was asking $3200 but I was able to haggle him down ... The truck was in great condition minus the interior that was fair...  However it does have a salvage title the truck had a bed and cab Swap iris still straight and drives like a dream.... You gotta take what you can get these days..... This was the day I bought it

So you spend 5k on a newer rig. It has more expensive parts, and was not built anywhere near as tough as Toyota pickups. Give it 5 years later down the road and I will GUARANTEE that you will have put close to 2-3k in maintenance and repairs into your newer vehicle. If you bu a Toyota pickup in fair shape, 5 years later younwillmonly added oil changes and air filters to it.

People know this. That is why they hold value. They are still around because they are so tough. they can also be sold in parts for about 2500 in a matter of days if they are 4x4.

Like I said , buy now, the price is n,y going to go up. I dd a 86 4runner. It gets 21 mpg. Drives real nice. Is super reliable. Insurance is cheap as all hell. And if it does break, it cost like a maximum of 100 bucks to fix anything at all. What newer vehicle can say that?

Been finding several 93 4runner's with the 22RE's and 5 spds, and they want $6000 for them.

just like pretty much any 4x Tacoma, I think they are way over priced also.  was looking for a first gen Tacoma ext cab 4x and the cheapest one I could find had almost 330k miles and was still asking $5600 for it and it looked a little rough
