Broken Longfield removal????
« on: Oct 07, 2013, 08:45:39 AM »
So I broke another short side Longfield this weekend, very clean break, no shards or jagged edges. I was able to remove the outer shaft, but the inner is stuck in the housing. I have an old model ARB RD01 diff and I'm pretty sure that it has a center pin which prevents me from knocking the shaft out from the drivers side. I tried some vise grips and slide hammer to pull it out but she is STUCK! I think welding to the shaft and slide hammer is my next option, but not sure how well that will work. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I used to take a PVC pipe(think one inch) then fold some welding wire into the tube and beat the PVC onto the broken shaft. Then you have some leverage to wiggle the broken shaft.
You'll never take me alive

I ended up putting a shaft collar in front of the splines and used a gear puller to finally pop it out. what a relief lol.
