cleaing wheels

the wheels that came on the bucket im going to use. i want to repaint them though. whats the best way to get the chrome plating off so i can lay down new paint

Unless the chrome is peeling off or you can scuff them real good I think you would be better off getting a different set of rims :beer:

I agree with oddball!  As an ex-schwabie it would be easier to just buy some new el-cheapo white spokes and scruff them up with a scotch brite pad if ya want a specific color!  I personally love the chrome spoke wheels, but it just seems that they just don't do good chroming anymore!  My nissan 720, $20 chrome spokes, and if they peel and or rust, who cares!!  I might wash it twice a year if i'm lucky!! :biggthumpup: 
And if you find a used set, have them taken to a tire shop and put on a balancer to see if they're straight before buying, seen alot of good money spent on bent wheels.  Good luck on what you decide!
