Boost Q - (Turbo)
« on: May 21, 2002, 11:01:31 AM »
This place wants $400 to put in two gauges, boost and some other one. I guess I gotta weld some sensor thing somewhere in the exhaust for one of the gauges, how do I know where to put it? Are there any good web sites or resources for this stuff? I am kinda turbo dumb. BTW it is a ford diesel with the chip n 4" exhaust allready on it. Nutty thing peels out on the highway - it is a 4 door dually!

That would be an Air/Fuel ratio gauge and sensor.

Usually piggy back meters are used that use your existing O2 sensor for its input. Such as what I have, a split second O2 sensor (see it here: http://www.marlincrawler.com/bm/mr2/project_car/instrument/arm1/index.html).

You need to place the sensor as close to the point where all 6(?) cylinders are collected, just beyond the collector. Do not run if off of 'one bank' or 'one cylinder', you could be frying other pistons and not even know about it. Place it right where all cylinders dump into one pipe. If it's a true dual exhaust system, then I highly recommend running two sensors.

BTW, 400 big ones seems like alot of money to hook up a vacuum/pressure line and mount two gauges. Especially sine your even doing some work with that exhaust sensor.  :shake:

Do you realize how fricken easy it is to install a boost gauge?  :ack:
See how simple it is via my install: http://www.marlincrawler.com/bm/mr2/project_car/instrument/b_gauge/index.html

Let me know how it goes!

$400 was for drive it in drive it out. It is a V8, the doohickey was a pyrometer? I thought it was air/fuel and pressure. I noticed some of the pressure gauges have different limits, guess I need to find out which one to get. I am trying to do it all and not pay anyone, just trying to do some research on it first. Thanks for the info!
