3' spacers to 1.5' What do you think...?
« on: Jun 28, 2013, 02:58:07 PM »
Hey guys. I am just wanting to know opinions on wheel spacers. I have an exo caged 91 4 runner. It currently has 40" super swampers and3" wheel spacers up front with 1.5" rear. After breaking trunnion bearings ring gears and steering components left and right  :maddest:I got my hands on a set of 37" mtrs and am ditching the 3" spacers. My question is I have (4) 1.5" spacers I was going to run in all 4 corners. The problem is that I have an ifs rear so If I did this the rear would be 3" wider than the front. I have heard people say that it is bad news to have a wider rear than front.. What do you think???

I have 2in spacers all the way around. Stock width front 55 + 4in and an IFS rear 58 + 4in it work just fine. plus keeps the rear from falling into ruts as much in my opinion.

The only real negative about running a wider rear is the turning radius suffers. Beyond that it doesn't matter.

thanks for the input, I would like to stay as wide as possible for stability reasons but I need to gain some reliability. I guess I need to make a decision...

Depending on what your wheel backspacing is id say keep the 3'' spacers and spend the money on marlins 25mm kit or the trail-gear eliminator kit. The tire swap alone will take a ton of stress off your drive train and the extra width is nice.  I like my rigs to have a little wider front wms personally, mostly because it seems easier to have your rear tire follow the same line as your front tire when your approaching an obstacle at an angle( most the time ).  But like everyone else said it wont be the end of the world to run 1.5'' all the way around.

I have the eliminator kit installed and that's what I keep hearing, to keep the track the same width or have the front a little wider..

put a set of 1.5's up front and dont run them on the rear.   unlock the front diff and be done with breaking :pokinit:
