hello i am new to crawling and i was wondering about a few things.
1. if i put in arb air lockers what is a good ratio for 33s and still a daily driver?
2. can you run the arb air pump to work the lockers and a onbord air set up?
3. is there a 6in lift kit with out using block out there so i can get rid of my body lift?
i have a 84 truck that is stock except for a 3 in lift ans 33s.
thank you

jrock

All yes ;)

33 = 4.88
Run the larger ARB pump with an air tank.
AllPro, TG, Davez.... most all sell 3"-6" springs.

thanks
also what can i do to run disk brakes on the rear? is there a kit out there i cant find one and not sure what to look for in a junk yard to make a kit.

jrock

I like the Goldenstate Motorsports kit. He's on pirate selling his kit. All Montero stuff with custom brackets. Really easy. Just torch or cut the brake backing plates off.

cool
another question would 4.88 gears work if i eventually went to 37s? or at that point whould it be better to go to dual transfer cases?

Red_84truck

i was looking on allpro on there extreme lift kit and it said it includes a u bolt flip kit? how does that look installed? i have never heard of that kit and am a bit confused.

Don't make the mistake of going to tall. 3" and 33 are fine. Heck with a smidge of trimming I stuffed 37's on my runner and 3'ish inches of lift.

cool

The GS Motorsports is not all Montero, it is all Toyota, There is no e-brake with it at this time.

No, to high geared, with 37's you want 5:29's and your clutch willl love you for it. I run 4:88's with 36's, but mine is a trailer queen!!! Dual cases are to give you lower gears on the trail, not the street

When you get the ARB's set-up, you should go with 5.29 gear sets, they will be a little tall for 33's, but not tall enough to make it unlivable on the street.

The u-bolt flip kit just reverses the way u-bolts mount, resulting in a little more ground clearance and protects the u-bolt threads.  To use them you will have to redo your shock mounts as well, so you will need to factor in the costs of shock tabs, welding costs, and new shocks as well.

I ran 33's and 5.29's it reved a bit at freeway speed but the motor did just fine! 22r still got 17mpg. I planned to go larger tires and only wanted to do it once.
5.29 and 35's were spot on for the speedo btw

for rear disc I would run these IMO  because you can re use your front calipers on the rear!

Have you run this kit yet? I had a similar kit and I had problems with it. Brakes worked fine on the street, on the3 trail it sucked.  I had to pump the brakes all the time.

Reason was the calipers were solid mounted and the slight flexing of the axles would open up the calipers causing me to have to pump the brakes. You need a floating caliper. Not a good thing to have to do on the trail.

I re-did the set-up, modified the brackets to accept Honda Passport rear semi-float calipers and Montero rotors. The brakes work great now and no more pumping.

I am not the only person that had this problem.

tyes

33 tires and 6 inch lift springs, may look a little funny. try 5.29 with 35 best for both on and off road. TG has good deals, but their customer services are horrible, but I would go with Allpro. I have ARB both front and rear, the best out there in my opinion...

:yumyum:I personally run the GSM disk kit. Super easy to install, it's just there is no ebrake which is no big deal, can always run a pinion/dshaft ebrake if necessary. But I highly recommend their kit from Steve/Jeff. And I would buy the kit from them and source your own calipers and rotors. The nice thing is the rears are from the late model 4runner and fjcruiser so it's built for a heavy truck not some car. Give em a call and check them out wonderful people, or ya can go down there and give em someone new to talk to

I run 33x12.5s with a 4.56 ARB locker and 3" lift on my daily driver, did a little trimming but still get a little bit of rubbing under full flex but just adds to the ambiance.  Speedo is right on and does great on the highway and has plenty of pull in 4-low, can get a little bogged down in 4-high in the soft & sandy.  I do a lot of long distance 4x4 trips and the 4.56 ratio is perfect for it, 19 mpg.  If it wasn't my daily driver or i planned on going larger tire-wise I would've opted for the 4.88 or 5.29.  The high output compressor makes airing back up a dream.
