Well here in good old Pennsylvania i know you CAN'T run with out doors, you can't even have Half doors or bob your bed and i also got pulled over sunday night because my Bumper "looked a little high" but  it was right at the limit 30 inches.  In general PA hates anyting that can go offroad  :shake_head:

I was pulled over in Georgetown, California for  1. not having mud flaps  2. no lisence plate light  and  3. my exhaust didn't come out behind my rear tire.  the guy only gave me a warning.  I have since fixed those things and havent gottem pulled over yet.  But there is a kid at school who drives his yota every day with full widths and 38's with no muf flaps, it is no were near street legal and he passes cops all day long without getting pulled over.  I just got jacked i guess.  and i guess since my front bumper sticks out just as far as my tire that it is street legal?  Haven't found that one out yet.

lets see I have
1. no mudflaps
2. no idea what happened to the liscense plate light
3 exhaust ends right about the rear axle
4. 37" tires that stick out

and I have yet to get a ticket/warning for any of it. :crossed:  hope it stays that way, guess I have been lucky.  Only thing I have been pulled over for  (that I myself didnt do  :smack: ) was a busted headlight (3 times in 1 night, no tickets just warnings) and a burnt out tailight (warning again)

There was a rash of mudflap tickets written around these parts last Fall. Haven't heard of any since then.

With the new reflective plates that they force you to buy, I can't see any legal grounds for the light requirement. Other than they make the rules.

Late model F150's don't have the exhaust exit behind the rear tires and they came NEW like that. Presumably they are legal.

that is based on height (taller than "x" must exit rear or top)

that dosent make any sense. 97-98 ford f150s came from the factory with the exhause exiting before the rear tire, there are plenty of panel trucks with exhaust exiting righ behind the cab, under the truck.

:respect:  I live in Tillamook, Oregon I used to think that living here sucks until I hear about all you guys and your crap you have to go through just to drive.  The only things cops are picky on here is tires sticking out too far.  They will let ya go if they are maybe two to three inches out from fender, but six or seven inches yes!  No bumper limits, headlight limits, deq, exhaust noise (alot of kids with 4 cyl and 12 inch glasspacks, do you know how loud that is?? :tantrum: hell you can still hear them shifting four miles away!! )  mud flaps, maybe if your running 40's or more, half the county is missing the front plates, doors what's that?  we see even little cars without them. They do get picky when you don't have no bed on, so you see alot of beaters with cut up truck tires over the rear wheels!!!  For being in the Pacific northwest, I feel like i live in the south!!  I think I just heard a shift of people moving to Tillamook!!    :scared:

Just a word of warning.  A buddy of mine was in Moab last weekend and got pulled over for going 10mph over (oops), but the cop didn't approve of him not having doors on his Blazer or uncovered front fenders.  My buddy asked what the difference was between his Blazer and all of the doorless jeeps and the cop said something about the jeeps having "quick release" doors and that they were going to enforce the fender thing at the Safari this year.  It should be interesting with all of the buggies that will be in town.  I plan to pull my doors next time I visit Moab, but I will be expecting to have a conversation with a smokey.  :twocents:

Cops......arghhh :snare:  I got pulled over about 2 weeks ago and i got a ticket for no front plate and mud flaps. I have the side mirrors that fold in and out. I keep them folded in because i dont need them and i dont use them, well the cop is all confused about that and thinks my mirrors are broke or something...? So he plays with it and then decides to not give me a ticket for that..What would that be a Fix-It-NOW? :headscratch:

My truck has "quick release" hings, they come off in seconds so does that make it better.....what is the diffrence if the come off fast or slow they are still off..... :headscratch:  :headscratch:

I have no idea what the logic behind "quick" release doors is, Moab seems to be partial to Jeeps and in the past things have relaxed during the Safari.  I know a guy who had a 40s or 50s Chevy full bodied cor on a 4wd chassis clearing 44" tires.  The Moab cops pulled him over and told him that they didn't want to see it again unless he was leaving town.  That next weekend (the safari started) there were buggies all over town running 40 inch plus tires, go figure.

Why not just run a tube door?

Can't argue with that other than I would rather put my limited funs towards a 2nd case.   :smack:

If they get stolen they will NOT re-make them, they will pull them from the system. Been there done that, don't try it ;)

get this, I actually had a COP steal my plate, he said it was illegal and he had to confiscate it or impound my truck because it said snobd and referenced to cocaine. Not wanting to have my truck towed I let him take my plate. Couldn't get them both off so they only got one. I go to make a complaint and the boss guy says "that guy doesn't work here anymore"

Anyway, they wouldn't get me a replacement plate so those plates are long gone..

Actually, the two rules in PA are that you have to have the driver's side mirror (and passenger side if you cannot see out the back with the center one in the cab) and that there is a door sill.  That means that a Jeep can run without doors (if it has mirrors) because there is the lip down to the floor.  Stock, a Toyota cannot run without doors because (so they say) something on the floor could roll out the door.

That's why I'm looking at building a pair of half doors (with mirrors).
