88 4runner, 5-speed W56, ~118k on it.  When I am decelerating, and press in the clutch, and go to down shift in to 2nd gear, I hear a gear whine.  It dosen't do it in any other gears.  I've yet to change the fluid, what do yall suggest running in it?

First, downshifting isnt such a great idea on Toyota truck trans (however I do it all the time). What kind of a downshift is this? What RPM are you engaging at to create this whine?

If I make an aggressive downshift then I will hear a gear whine as well.

118k isn't that much, what's the history on the vehicle? Driven a bit on the hard side has it?

Thanks

Heh, heal-toe downshift is something I picked up a long time ago, and it's a hard habit to break.  I have NO idea about the history of the truck.  She runs great, good compression etc, however.  I don't know the rpm, as I've yet to wire up a tach.  It's usually downshifting in to 2nd between 10-20mph, I don't try it higher as there isn't much of a point.  It dosen't change it if I rev match.

your synchros are whining cause your not matching your engine speed to the tranny when you downshift,   if you down shift let the clutch out as soon as your out of 3rd gear so tranny will spin up to match 2nd
