well I think I messed up on my 4.7 build
« on: Mar 27, 2013, 03:32:07 PM »
So I built my 4.7 case a few weeks ago, then decided to go with a longfeild output shaft just because I dont want to worry about that. as I was re assembling it today I got everything together and started torquing the bolts and one of the bolts that usually holds the front drive shaft protective cover on, just spun, well :pokinit:  :shocking: . I pulled it out and sure enough 3 or 4 threads came out also. figured I was not paying attention and put a bolt in there that did not have the #6 on it which was considerably shorter. see picture.. I have a spare tcase part and I can swap everything over AGAIN... I put a #6 bolt in the hole and it torqued down without slipping but Im Just worried the threads I already pulled out will weaken it.

Should I be worried?
And swap everything to the spare one?

Well that was the second Time I used the gaskets So if I have to do this again I might as well get new gaskets also since I dont want to deal with leaks anytime in the near feature.

I'm no expert and obviously I dont know how bad it is in the thread walls but if you get good grip when using the right bolt length and only pulled a few threads then Locktite and correct bolt length should be OK. and then if it leaks I would so go ahead and switch the case over to your spare, That's just my thoughts on it.

It reached torque according to the fsm, but that's just it I don't want any issues being the cause of this so I'd rather just do the work now , but I'd rather not do the worm period if it will be okay haha

Throw the gaskets away and buy some ultra grey or ultrablack. You wont have any leaks.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I use right stuff silicone when I assemble them.

First time I had it together it was good with no leaks.

I'd use hylomar with the gaskets.......

That's what I did with my W56B and it doesn't leak.
