Lurker, previous customer, and now - newb.
« on: Mar 14, 2013, 01:12:22 PM »
Hey folks, I'm often reluctant to sign up to sites since I'm a member of too many things as it is.  But I always find myself lurking here when I'm searching.  So, why not...

A little about me:  My name is Brent and I live in Salt Lake City, just beneath Mt. Olympus.  I've been here nearly 6 years and have been away from wheeling for about that amount of time, as well.  I wheeled up and down the east coast in Samurais in Toyota pickups.  Since I moved I've been wanting to build another rig and wheel all over the state but never made it a priority.

After having our first child I quietly started to search for a Runner or Samurai to build. For a long while, nothing that really did it for me showed up.  Then, in December I found the Sammy below in Colorado.  I spoke to the owner but my schedule wasn't allowing me to fly out and check this thing out.  So, I chalked it up to being too far away and continued my search.  Then, after the New Year, I looked it up again and it was still around.  I gave the owner another call and he was reluctant to have me fly out and drive it back.  I was reluctant to drive all the way out and back if I didn't like it.  After another call or two, he convinced me and in mid-January I drove out.

Good thing, too, because it had only been driven 8 miles a week for the last ten years and it was LOADED with carbon.  Along with that I couldn't find first because the shifter guide pin was broken and the shifter sheet was so worn I could rotate the shifter in a pizza-sized circle.

So, here's the Samurai the weekend I picked it up.  I've been collecting parts since the end of January.  I'm waiting on a few things to come in and have a little more to purchase. The way I figure it is I don't want to rebuild this rig like I've done to others in the past.  I want to do it once, pay for it once, and cry about how much I paid for it ONCE.  Haha. :D

Here are the specs, so far:

-Mini front with wide axle kit with a bunch of Marlin gussets, armor, etc., and Spartan locker in a HP 3rd (4:10)
-V6 Runner Rear with an ARB with a Kryptonite diff guard
-FJ80 steering box (don't have the high steer yet)
-6.5 case with HD output and twin stick
-LROR EOS cradle
-Panty liner
-Runner D shafts
-YJs (probably TT ML front and reg shackle rear)
-H3 alloys and 33s
-GM alt

I'm waiting for Marlin's billet high steer kit to come back in stock.  I've really held off on getting anything else. The 25mm kit is calling my name.

Thanks for reading...

First of all,  :welcome:  And nice Sami.

And I have to ask, "Panty Liner?"  I know the feminine product, but for a Sami?   :headscratch:

It's a part the Zuks Off Road makes. T-case mount stiffener. He names all his stuff in that vein.

Thanks, I appreciate it.  The only bad thing is that I'm getting the bug for another Toyota.
