Can I modify a SFA to accept an e-locker?
« on: Mar 05, 2013, 07:51:34 AM »
Sorry if the title is a bit confusing.

I am about to SAS my 88 4Runner with the 4Wheel Underground 3-Link, and would like to modify the SFA for a future e-locker while i am rebuilding the axle. The idea is that it would be easier to notch the housing now while the SFA isn't under the truck.

Yes, but if you do you can't go back to a non e-locker.

^^^ thanks guys...

Nimyad addressed exactly what i want to know.

I do not have an elocker for the front yet. I thought the notching was still within the gasket area of the 3rd? I guess i should search for some pics of the elocker install.

So it appears that... i need to drill new holes for the actuator area, and probably fill the old?

You'll need two longer studs for the side you need to notch.  IIRC, you will also need to fill in two holes, and drill and tap the two holes for the longer studs.

The pics are for reference of the notch.  Since it's hard to see it in the pic of the housing.

I Noticed my housing seems to have a lip where the 3rd mates, I'll have to research how others overcame this when mounting the actuator. I'd like to do the drilling of the new holes while the housing is out so i can make them as straight as possible easily. The grinding of the housing isn't that big of a deal if i have to do it on the truck.
I just want to do as much as i can to the housing while it isn't under the truck, and avoid removing it a second time if i can help it.

thanks for the help guys
