1st gen pickup eBay type dash pad replacements?
« on: Feb 21, 2013, 07:10:30 AM »
Like most, my 1st gen dash is junk. How do the replacement dash pad mount?

Does the replacement mount over the old pad? Or does the old pad get removed and the replacement gets mounted over the underlying steel?

Thanks.

No idea about that. But I've seen people repair dashes, mostly in cars, and it's a pretty simple project. You just break off all the bad pieces and use a bondo type compound to fill in everything (what they use is like bondo but it flexes). Then you paint it or dye it, I even saw a guy frock his and it looked good.

My replacement cover glued on directly over the original. I then bought a dash mat to put over it for protection from sun damage. Worked out nice.

or you could save the time and trouble of replacing the pad and taking apart the dash, and just lay a dashmat on top of it and forget about it like i did cause im lazy.
