3" wheel spacers. Too long?

I'm considering running marlins 3" wheel spacers on my 85 front axle.  I would like to know the effects of such a long spacer.  i.e...turning?, load on wheel bearings? etc...  I have marlins highsteer for my setup.

I have the 2inch spacers up front and can tell you 3 inch would be way too wide!Two inch is the max I would go..with 3 ich spacers your brake rotors will be VERY exposed to the point they could hit stuff..And not to mention it will look funny with the brake rotor hanging in libo and all exposed..I am very happry with the two inch spacer..really there is no need to go more then 2inches..

A semi-related question, if I may...What would the difference in performance, reliability, etc. be between spacers and something like Sky's wide front end kit? Besides the extra $$$$

The smaller the wheel spacer used the better.

If it is a dd then heck no.  But if it a trail only rig, go for it.  wider can be better.

holy crap 3" spacer. Trail rig yes, but if you need that much width maybe its time to do full width axles. I just bought some 1 1/4 and I like em. Remember the added stess you are putting on your bearings, especially if you already have a wheel with a 3.75 backspace or something diff than stock. I have yet to hear anyone have bearing issues, but its a fact it puts more leverage on them, and anything different than stock backspace = less reliable, or more problematic, in the long run.

I am pretty sure my rear bearings went out faster cuz of my wheel spacers and i only have 1 1/2 inchers.  Soon to be a ifs rear axle, gonna sell the wheel spacers.

I have 2" spacers on mine and I hate it. Not only are you wearing out your bearings and stuff but you are also putting more stress on your Birfields and they will break easier the bigger the spacer. As for getting someones wide axle kit, thats just an expensive spacer, you are still putting more stress on the front end.

I will be selling my rear spacers as well.  They are 1" 1/4  I will post em in the parts for sale area. (doing ifs rear as well)
