Dash board confusion
« on: Jan 20, 2013, 07:44:12 PM »
Does anyone know how to get a dash board out of an 87 Toyota PU? I need to get in there to get my main fan working. Thank you.

Great, that's much easier. I get air out of my two side vents, but nothing out of the middle and I don't think the floors work either. Is there somewhere I should be looking to get them blowing?

The vent control slide switch cables may have slipped...Remove radio panel, it pops off. Ash tray assembly screws to get heater slide assembly. AC button pulls straight out, slider knobs pull off, carefully pry up on plastic cover. You can then see whats going on.

I don'n hear the fan blowing in the middle. I had it all torn down the other day. I think it might be a power issue.

If the fan is blowing out any vents it is fine, you said you didnt hear it in the middle (edit: im assuming you meant you couldn't hear it in the middle vent but the others you could). There is just the one fan.
Your problem sounds like either a linkage problem or a diverter door. Does it switch at all with the lever, to defrost or anything?

I will check that out. Hopefully that is all it is. Also, do you know where I can pick up a new cabin filter? I figure while I have it all apart I might as well change it. Thanks.

It's right next to the blinker fluid reservoir . :gap:
(older cars don't have those)

Look for a disconnected vent hose or as noted above a disconnected or broken slide cable.

If you don't have any middle speeds on the fan control, then you need a new Resistor,  It's located just above the pass. floor boards, behind the fan itself.  To best get to it, do the head stand in the truck.

But if you had the dash apart, maybe you didn't get the tubes back together, or some of the cables came loose.  Which is a pregnant dog.

But, as with most of your posts, we need some better clarity on the situation.   :dunno:
