broke my 1st couple highsteer studs.
« on: Jan 09, 2013, 07:19:55 AM »
im on a 10 dollar an hour budget just to put out ther in the beggining, so im not gonna mess with the 5th stud mod, dana 4 4studs or arp studs. i need to atleast replace all 4 studs on drivers side. if i dont go get stock yota studs from pick and pull... is it fesible for my the get the specs and thread pitch of the current stock studs and possible find new grade 8 or grade 10 studs at ace hardware or place like that. and my second question i guess would be are grade 8 studs gonna be just as strong as a stock yota stud if not stronger? Thanks

5th stud costs 1.50 each side. They broke because you didnt keep them tight. Bolt wont hold anywhere near as well as studs.

Junkyard studs should be fine, or fastenal can prob set you up with the right studs, or some all thread to make your own.

Do you have hydro-assist on your rig?

Just get stock studs and keep them torqued, you should be fine.
Studs/bolts at a place like ace hardware are lesser quality than an actual fasterners specific shop, from my experience.

no hyro assist, just high steer and stock yota steering box, its been thru fordyce, rubicon silly trips around redding (were i seem to do my most damage, only runnin a 35 tire. i honestly do not believe i used loc-tite last time i had them out i will definetly be using it this time. i dont know how long ive been driving it like this possibly only 35 miles or so. anyone think my upper knuckle bearing could be chewed up? i will look at those. and thanks nimyad. i will find stock studs somewhere. i new i shouldt have sold the 3 or 4 solid axles ive come across in the past 5 years

Im located near this master bolt shop,  it puts fastnel to shame, there called prime fastners and have the strongest bolts you can find.,   Iv been thinking about getting a box to sell on here for a good price, Ive heard rumors from other toy heads around here there stronger than arp. If interested i could get a set  let me know

I sheared off all four coming out from the MC Round Up a few years ago. Now I keep a wrench in my console and when I air down I try to put a wrench on them. This isn't tech, but I haven't had to weld with my battery since,

I was shearing ARP studs on mine because I couldn't keep them tight.  Finally upgraded to the Longfield 5th stud kit and haven't touched my knuckle studs in years!  One of the best upgrades I've ever done to my truck.
