How do you patch tears in tires
« on: Mar 06, 2005, 10:19:10 PM »
My spare swamper has a big tear in it and I want to patch it but it is about 3" x 3" u shaped tear about 4" below the tread. I seen a tire get stapled or something once and am trying to do that and run a tube in it? What do you all think.

I know some guys have sewn tears up with stainless wire and then run a large patch inside the tire. Seams to work okay for a trail tire anyway.

OH YEAH THE STAPLE AND TUBE THING SOUNDS OK BUT I WOULD BE AFRAID THE STAPLES WOULD PINCH FLAT THE TUBE EVEN IF THE SMOOTH SIDE WAS AGAINST THE TUBE, DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? :smack:

I was thinkin staple, patch, then tube and it would only be a trail spare.I am hoping the patch wil protect the tube.

I would just patch the tear and toss a tube in it..Like you said its a spare..If the tear is bigenough and you van see the patch from the outside I would use some silicone just to keep crap out of the cut..sikaf;ex works awesome..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!
