I'm about to start the rear disc brake swap on my 84. Is there a way that it can be done without having to press the backing plate; can you cut it somehow? I know its better to do it right but I'll need to buy new bearings if they are pressed out right? I'm kindof on a budget.

There are several threads on here covering this exact subject, with both your chevy caliper swap and the toyota caliper swaps. Pressing is not required. A lot quicker then that actually. Ive done one myself using an IFS caliper and Tacoma Rotor, with a board venders design. Good luck and welcome to the forum bruh. O0

YES. Press out the four bolts. Hit it loose with a hammer. Cut it in half and remove. Press the bolts back in. An air chisel works great.

You can also go full float. No pressing needed :p
