New to the forum, not new to Toyota

Hello all. I'm new to this forum but not to Toyotas. I have owned many Toyotas. I currently have a '91 short bed I picked up for a song. It doesn't have an engine currently and it has lots of body damage, but still has lots of potential. I am putting an engine together for it.

BigMike I have had 2wds 4x4s and Celicas. I even had some corollas. Helped friends work on MR2s, Supras, and lots other Toyotas.  I currently have a '80 2wd that have been using for parts, a '81 Celica I have been trying to get a title on, and just bought the '91 hilux 4x4. I had a '92 4runner V6 that I did a Chevy 4.3L V6 swap on a couple years ago.

BigMike

Nice collection of Toyotas! What years were your Corollas? Any TE27s?

I had an AE86 that ended up having so many problems I traded it off. Then I had a '91 E90 that I drove back and forth to work. I had big plans to put a 4agez in but that never happened. My ideas and plans usually exceed my grasp. Lol

BigMike

That's cool, someday I hope to build an AE86. I think I'd run a 2ZZ, just need to figure out the bell housing issue for a FR layout.

The 4A-GZE is my #1 favorite engine, and its what's in my AW11 daily driver. If curious, the highlight of my 4A-GZE experience: http://bigmike.marlincrawler.com/stage2_5/index.html

I would love to have an aw11. A friend of mine had a supercharged one years ago that I helped him work on. He had some custom pulley made to increase the boost but he didn't change anything else on the engine so it didn't quite run the way it could have. That's we're I learned about the 4agez. He always talked about doing a triple threat, supercharged, turbocharged, and nitrous on it. I think it was HKS that had the set up to make the supercharger and turbo work together. I could be wrong though. The 4agez is an awesome engine.

Finally got my 11 posts so I can share a pic of what I am starting with.

If I've said it once I've not said it enough: White is the non-debatable superior automobile color :_order:

Yes, HKS made a "Twin Charger" kit for the 4A-GZE. Turbos are nice but they take away from the balance of a car like the MR2. In my opinion all MR2s should be normally aspirated, like the MR2 Spyder, but the trouble is to keep it lightweight with a small engine you sacrifice much needed bottom end torque. Hence why the Supercharger, which adds displacement without the negative side affects of a Turbo (boost lag and most importantly a lack of direct boost control by the driver [without perhaps highly sophisticated electronics]), is such a welcoming addition. The Twin Charger does offer the best of both worlds but it was verrrrry expensive!

BigMike
