Hey everybody,

I'm in the military and head home on christmas leave soon. I have a 3rz and r150 waiting to go in my 4runner. Won't have enough time to do the engine swap while i'm home this time around, but I was wondering if there is a way to mate an r150 trans with a 22re. I'm throwing duals in while i'm home this time around and it'd be awesome if i could also put my new trans in as well.

Any replies appreciated, thanks a bunch.

As far as I understand, it's a different bellhousing bolt pattern between the 22R(E) & RZ engines compared to the VZ engines(3.0=3VZ & 3.4=5VZ).  But I believe anything is POSSIBLE....

I presume you have the necessary bellhousing for putting the R trans to the 3RZ?  A used Marlin one that's no longer made or I've heard talk of some guys getting a 2TR(?)(later model Taco/Runner) bellhousing but I get conflicting info about this part.  Some say it works, others say it won't since the later trannys have a longer (7.5inch) input shaft as compared to earlier R trannys (6.5inch).

Okay, thanks for the reply.

yeah, i've got one of the old Marlin adapter bell-housings they used to make before it was discovered that a W59 bell-housing (i believe) could simply be used instead so they stopped making them.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see once it's all apart on how the lengths of the trans and the input shaft and the bell-housing all compare to whats in there right now and see if any mounts need to be moved.

What about an R151F turbo bell housing? That one will bolt up to a 22re.

CrazyYota is right. The R151F bell housing will bolt to the R150F and the 22RE. It has to be 88-95 R150F that mated to the 3VZ 3.0 though.

The 96 up R150F that mates to the 5VZFE 3.4 has a longer input shaft and will stick out too far in the R151F bell housing.

Well the W59 is the trans offered behind the 3RZ for certain years.  Took the place of the W56 that was behind the 22RE.  The bellhousing that folks said would fit was behind the 2005(?) and later 2.7L engines, I believe it is called a 2TR?  Drive by wire engine that replaced the 3RZ...  Anyway, that trans(whatever model it is) has a 7.5" input shaft, so it can't work with an earlier R150(6.5" input shaft and years '88-95?).  It would have to be a later model R150 ('96 & later??)   So other than the Marlin bellhousing or the R151 turbo trans bellhousing there isn't anything else available.

Is this correct?
